Frau Sylvia Siwinda

Letter of Appreciation

LC Grevenbroich
Dear Hans-Jakob Vogt and Members of LC Grevenbroich,
LETTER OF APPRECIATION
I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Sylvia Chifundo Siwinda, an Ophthalmology Resident Doctor supported through your generosity under Christian Blind Mission. I wanted to take a moment to personally express my sincere gratitude for the support you have given me.
I am currently studying at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences and training at Lions Sight First Eye Hospital – Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Malawi. It feels almost unbelievable that I am now nearing the end of my second year of residency—something your support has made possible.
Residency has been both challenging and deeply humbling. There are days that test my limits, and others that remind me why I chose this path. Through it all, your financial support has eased the journey in ways I cannot fully put into words. Knowing that someone believes in my potential and in the work I aspire to do has been an incredible source of strength.
This past year alone, I have grown so much both as a clinician and as a person. Every patient I meet teaches me something new, and each encounter shapes me into a better ophthalmologist in training.
I am proud to share that I have learned to perform Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS), a delicate microsurgical skill that I continue to refine with each case. More recently, I received training in Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) for glaucoma management, and I am genuinely excited to continue improving this skill in the months ahead.
There are many more milestones I have reached, each one made possible by your generosity. I have included these in my detailed report, but I wanted to personally say thank you. Your support is not just helping me through school; it is contributing to better eye care for countless patients in my country.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for walking this journey with me.
Sincerely,
Sylvia Siwinda.
